Gloria B. Strickland

City Leader

Ms. Strickland is the City Leader of the All Stars Project of New Jersey and is continuing seventeen years of extraordinary leadership to establish the All Stars cutting edge approach to engaging poverty through Afterschool Development in Newark and surrounding communities.

In 1999, Gloria was asked by the All Stars Project to bring its independently funded performance-based and development-focused model of afterschool to Newark and New Jersey. Under Ms. Strickland’s leadership, the All Stars Project of New Jersey has grown to reach over 2,000 poor youth each year and is supported by more than 1,000 individuals and corporations. In 2013, Ms. Strickland was instrumental in the opening of the Scott Flamm Center for Afterschool Development, a 9.2 million dollar, 9,000 square foot center in downtown Newark. The Center supports new kinds of relationships between New Jersey’s poor and affluent communities, and is bringing development and growth into the lives of tens of thousands of young people, their families and their communities.

Gloria has a forty-year record of commitment, innovative leadership and service to New Jersey’s poor communities and prior to joining All Stars, she served as executive director of the Somerset Community Action Program (SCAP) and Somerset County Head Start in New Jersey.

Gloria received her B.A. from Hofstra University and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from New York University.
