UX launches 2017 spring semester!

Published by Christina DiChiara

On Monday, January 16, 2017, the All Stars Project (ASP) hosted UX Opening Day at our New York City headquarters on W 42nd Street to launch the program’s 2017 winter/spring semester of free, developmental classes open to all ages.  In tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., current and alumni students of the All Stars youth programs along with teens from youth programs around the city put on a special performance where they gave their unique expressions of Dr. King and his “I Have a Dream” speech.

ASP co-founder and dean of UX, Dr. Lenora B. Fulani, was also in the house. Dr. Carrie Lobman, associate professor in the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers, interviewed Dr. Fulani in an intimate and engaging conversation, in which Dr. Fulani openly shared her history of growing up poor and the reasons she built the All Stars Project for people living in poor communities.

One hundred and fifteen people who attended UX Opening Day were able to “keep growing” by participating in the development coach process. Nine UX development coaches, business professionals from all walks of life, met with 71 people on Opening Day to support them to find ways to further develop and grow. Following the conversations, each development coach extends an invitation for their students to participate in a cosmopolitan cultural outing with them and other UX students from all backgrounds.

And, that’s not all! Guests were able to sample some of the free classes available this semester at UX, some of which included, Exploring Science, Performing Japanese, and Our Lives in Poetry. Other classes you can be on the lookout for this semester at UX include returning favorites, Development 101, Improv for Everyone, UX Book Club and Community Circle Singing. New classes that will be featured this semester are, UX Chess Club, Lenora Fulani on Fred Newman and Improv 2.
